Description

Messier 8 (NGC 6523)  is a giant interstellar cloud in the constellation Sagittarius.  It is classified as an emission nebula and as an H II region.
It is a treat at the eyepiece and a great object for imaging in RGB and Narrow Band.

This is another run through a lot of old data for a four panel mosaic I did in 2021. Working with the wiz bang new tools in Pixinsight certainly is a game changer. Notably, BlurXTerminator, which was applied twice with calculated PSF values on each channel before combination.  Then the Mosaic was compiled with PhotoMetric Mosaic and SpectroPhotometricColorCalibrationa applied to the final Linear result. Another run through BlurXTerminator before Generalised Hyperbolic Stretching to Non-Linear, and StarXTerminator for creating the separated Starless for masking, and Stars.
Local Histogram Equalisation and UnsharpMask are applied before the stars and starless are recombined in PixelMath and NoiseXterminator applied to finish.
It was quite the adventure with many wrong turns so it took a few goes and a LOT of CPU time to get a result I can live with.
This is a 50 % reduction as the Astrobin frowns on posting 70Mb Jpgs.
